Hold that tiger

A Siberian tiger jumped the concrete wall at the San Francisco Zoo on Christmas Day, Tues., Dec. 25, 2007. Three young men planned to remain at the zoo after it closed for the day, which is when the attack occurred. One young man died and the other two,who are brothers, were mauled by the tiger but survived. The tiger was shot and killed by police during the rescue.
Roy Horn from the famous Siegfried and Roy wild animal and illusion show was mauled by his white tiger, Montecore,on October 3, 2003. They were performing their live tiger act on stage when Roy was attacked. It occurred at the MGM Mirage Hotel on Roy's birthday. No one knows what caused the tiger to attack Roy. Siegfried Fischbaker and Roy Horn had performed together on the Las Vegas strip for nearly 30 years. Roy Horn is still recoverning from the attack and Montecore is still alive at the zoo which is part of The Mirage Hotel. The show is permanently closed.

Why are tigers
Confined in a zoo
They can’t escape
What can they do

A spacious place
For them to roam
But in the wild
Is their true home

The zoo had closed
Yet three remained
Why they stayed
Wasn’t explained

After a while
A fight ensued
Perhaps the boys
Caused this feud

A boy was killed
The others mauled
Now the public
Is appalled

A wall too low
The tiger leapt
Was he provoked
While he slept

A famous show
Siegfried and Roy
Lions and tigers
Thousands enjoyed

Performing in Vegas
Their tigers amazed
Inside their home
Tigers were raised

Then one night
Roy was attacked
While on stage
His tiger cracked

The tiger was loose
There wasn't a wall
Did everyone think
A tiger won't maul

Don't tease a tiger
Or make him your pet
He may do something
You'll surely regret

You've Gotta Have Heart

We love our hearts
We wear with pride
A treasured gift
Not put aside

On your neck
Hearts will dangle
On your wrist
Hearts on a bangle

Hearts to wear
On your ears
Broken hearts
Lots of tears

Hearts will ache
Hearts attack
Some won't get
Their own heart back

A heart shaped box
Filled with sweets
The game of hearts
A suit that beats

And those who have
A heart of gold
A heart like theirs
Can not be sold

What should I wear

Should I wear shorts
Should I wear a dress
Should I wear jeans
With the name Guess

Should I wear a jacket
Should I wear a sweater
How about a raincoat
For inclement weather

Should I wear a t-shirt
Should I wear a blouse
Or a halter top
Just around the house

Should I wear a hat
Or a green beret
Perhaps a baseball cap
At the game today

Should I wear pajamas
Should I wear a gown
A gown that I can sleep in
Or one worn with a crown

All I want for Christmas is to keep my teeth

Candy canes
Ribbon candy
Almond toffee
Sure is dandy

Chocolate Santas
Plus his elves
Every store has
On their shelves

All this candy
Puts on weight
Losing teeth
Could be my fate

Eating candy
I’ll avoid
So my teeth
Won’t be destroyed

Don't talk to strangers

Don’t talk to strangers
Wherever you meet
Although they may smile
And seem very sweet

Don’t talk to strangers
Is what I was told
When I was young
And now that I’m old

But if someone’s lost
And needs directions
I’ll offer them help
Without objections

And if I should need
The help of a stranger
I will accept it
Without fearing danger

I'm cautious though not
A doubting Thomas
Most strangers are nice
And that’s a promise

Frosty the Snowman

Frosty the snowman
What a jolly sole is he
But on the other hand
He might just be a she

Frosty the snowman
Has a carrot for a nose
It’s not the nose he wants
But it’s the one you chose

Frosty the snowman
In one spot he will stay
If he could walk around
Then hide and seek he'd play

Frosty the snowman
Will soon get very old
He'll quickly disappear
When it's no longer cold

Frosty the snowman
A man you never made
You lived where it was warm
In snow you never played

The good old days

No one wore
Designer jeans
Or left a message
On your machine

At the movies
A film you’d see
It wasn’t watched
On your TV

Just a few channels
On your set
No remote
For you to get

A credit card
You couldn’t swipe
And no computer
To use to type

Catalog shopping
Wasn't on line
Sears and Roebuck
Was divine

Metal detectors
Didn’t exist
Food cost less
On your grocery list

No child proff caps
Or taping your shows
Women wore stockings
But not panty hose

No luggage inspected
Before you flew
And no one thought
Of harming the crew

Pearl Harbor was bombed
The ships were ablaze
It wasn't always
The good old days

Donut Schools

Powered or glazed
And those that twist
Covered with chocolate
Few can resist

Topped with nuts
Or cream in between
Policemen will eat
With cups of caffeine

Donut shops
Wherever you go
Create what you like
With their dough

Donut schools
For those who bake
Powered and iced
And all they make

Many to choose
Yet seen before
These donuts are
In every store

Country Bumpkins

SHE SAID:

I live where it is pretty
It’s far from a big city

No fancy shops are here
But one place does sell beer

I’ve not been on a plane
Nor ridden in a train

We have no traffic jams
Our pigs will soon be hams

You won’t see foreign cars
Or any movie stars

I’m just a country gal
No country boy’s my pal

And hopefully one day
I’ll walk along Broadway

HE SAID:

My home’s the family farm
No need for an alarm

We don’t see movie stars
At night we look for Mars

No fancy stores to shop
We pray for a good crop

No need for a Corvette
A tractor’s what you get

The country gal I date
Will soon become my mate

I’ll stay here till I die
Come visit, you’ll know why

By, Randee Saber 9/10/07

You have to hide

You have to hide
Beneath a veil
Because these rules
Still prevail

Covered up
From head to toe
Who you are
Few will know

It must be done
For your protection
Men will not
Seek your affection

Being covered
Isn’t new
Even Grandma
Had to do

Too afraid
You won’t protest
This is how
You must be dressed

By, Randee Saber 11/8/07

I know your face

I know your face
You look so nice
Reporting the news
But never advice

I know your face
You host a show
If I see it live
I'd say hello

I know your face
You used to sing
They immitate you
You were the King

I know your face
And you know why
You're a prince
In the public eye

I know your face
Because you preach
You're televised
Millions you reach

I see your face
We're all related
We're the people
Who God created

I don't see my face
I do see my toes
And my face
The mirror shows

Nothing lasts forever

August 1, 2007 during rush hour traffic, Interstate 35 W. Bridge collapsed in Minneapolis, MN over the Mississippi River. Dozens of vehicles plummeted into the river; 4 dead, 79 injured and 20 missing. Repairs were being made on the bridge at the same time it collapsed.

In just a few years
You’ve driven your car
Too many miles
You fear to go far

Trade it in
Buy something new
A car that’s red
Or one that’s blue

It’s obsolete
You need to update
Your home PC
You can not wait

Appliances
How long will they last
If one of them breaks
Aside you’ll cast

Replace it instead
Get something new
It’s not very old
But why make do

What was the cause
That bridge collapsed
Though so much traffic
And time elapsed

Forever and ever
What made you think
That bridge would last
And never sink

Santa's in Texas

Santa’s in a swim suit
Trying to stay cool
He’s in Houston, Texas
Swimming in my pool

He's wearing a bikini
That matches his red suit
When he removes his beard
He’s really kind of cute

His reindeer are enjoying
The warm December breeze
Rudolf with his red nose
Hardly has to sneeze

The elves are busy working
They couldn’t leave the shop
Because it’s almost Christmas
They haven’t time to stop

When Santa comes to visit
With gifts for you this year
Instead of milk and cookies
Just leave him Shiner beer

Santa’s relocating
The North Pole’s way too cold
He’ll move his operation
Once his house is sold

Our traveling home

A motor home
Or a 5th wheel
To travel around
We think it’s ideal

The walls slide out
To give it more space
But too small to have
A hiding place

A traveling home
With just one door
A gourmet kitchen
And rooms on one floor

There’s shopping to do
And sights to be seen
But we’ll make sure
We keep it clean

We’re not out of touch
With a satellite dish
For something do to
We might even fish

We’re stocked with food
And bought new tires
To go on our journey
Much gas it requires

There’s no need to rush
We’ll stay here awhile
We’re not on a schedule
With our new lifestyle

We all look alike

Hey, I think I know you
Perhaps we’ve met before
You looked familiar
When you entered the door

You say that I remind you
Of someone that you know
I look exactly like her
So you had to say hello

You look like someone famous
Your clothes resemble his
You do this to make money
Because you’re in show biz

I can’t tell you apart
You look like one another
Of course you must be twins
Do you often fool your mother

We all resemble someone
How different can we be
How different can we look
We’re one big family tree

Birds on a wire

How amazing it is seeing all the Starlings standing together on the utility wires at a major intersection in Houston, TX

When it’s dusk
They congregate
Doesn’t matter
Who comes late

Hundreds filling
Many spaces
Coming from
So many places

Standing on
Their own trapeze
Swaying in
A gentle breeze

Wires crossing
Overhead
Chirping sounds
Are being said

Traffic’s moving
Through the light
Soon it will
Get dark tonight

Happy though
I got to see
All those birds
Before they flee

The Battlefield

For many months
Each time of year
Wars are fought
Both far and near

Enemies
On either side
Lining up
So none can hide

All dressed up
In battle gear
Running towards
The one who’s near

Fighting hard
To make them fall
Stop the one
That has the ball

A battlefield
Where no one dies
A game they play
They're all allies

Out of the ashes

Late October 2007, San Diego wildfires raged out of control causing an area of more than twice the size of New Your City to burn. There were sixteen active fires from Los Angeles County to the Mexican border. Five hundred thousand people were forced to evacuate and many of those allowed to return have found their homes destroyed but their neighbors' homes were okay. Two thousand homes and one hundred and eighty commercial buildings were destroyed or damaged. Twelve thousand firefighters battled the flames. The death toll was minimal. Arson is being investigated.

Suddenly
The fires came
In their path
They would lay claim

Fires given
Different names
Came to play
Their deadly games

No mementos
Could they take
Knowing lives
Would be at stake

Santa Ana
Winds would blow
Fires raged
An orange glow

Skies were filled
With acrid smoke
Thick enough
To nearly choke

Seeking shelter
Those who fled
Had to leave
Their cozy bed

Firefighters
Had the skills
Dragging hoses
Up steep hills

Homes were spared
Homes were burned
Everybody
Was concerned

Heaps of rubble
Nothing left
Fire caused
This major theft

Homes rebuilt
Just like before
Never knowing
What's in store

Twist and Shout

Grip the top
Hold on tight
Twist real hard
With all your might

Tap, tap, tap
On the floor
It’s becoming
Quite a chore

Under water
Running hot
Keep the lid
In this spot

Hard to open
Twist and shout
What we want
Won’t come out

Hunting Season

Hunting season
Now it's here
Hunters come
To bag a deer

Many hunters
Have the need
To kill for fun
And not to feed

On their walls
Heads displayed
Taxidermists
Will be paid

Inside a blind
Hunters hide
In front of them
Deer will stride

Graceful deer
Hunters prey
Lose their lives
On hunting day

Shots are fired
Deer will run
Hunting Season's
Just begun

Thin the herd
So those alive
Have more food
And will survive

Stadiums for a few

Stadium lights
Shining bright
Football games
On Monday night

A field of dreams
The fans have fun
Watching their team
Hit a home run

A league of their own
During the war
Women played baseball
But not anymore

Sporting events
Thousands attend
At home or a bar
Watch with a friend

Basketball, football
The baseball team
Even in movies
Spectators scream

Each of these teams
Scouts will come
Many good players
Offers to some

High School teams
To my dismay
The money spent
For football to play

Stadium lights
Strike up the band
It’s what I enjoy
And understand

Lady Luck

I walked around a ladder
My mirror didn't shatter
No black cat crossed my path
So what can be the matter

I have a good luck charm
I wear a four leaft clover
Caress my rabbit’s foot
Yet still my luck is over

I cannot win a game
I’m simply out of luck
No matter what I play
I’m not a lucky duck

Perhaps I'll win a prize
My raffel number picked
But I don’t think it will
It’s easy to predict

I'll quickly place my bet
The wheel goes for a spin
My number's getting close
I knew I wouldn't win

My luck's about to change
Cause I just won a buck
I'm on a winning streak
So now I'm lady luck

I like wearing black

I peeked in my closet
And what did I see
Several black pants
Staring at me

To make me look slim
Black I'll wear
If I gain weight
I'll hardly care

To go for a swim
Black is a must
A plain one piece
With a fitted bust

The little black dress
Is always in style
A classic look
Sure to beguile

For formal occasions
Black looks best
In pants or a gown
I'm nicely dressed

To match these clothes
I'll buy black shoes
The purse I need
Black I'll choose

No wearing pastels
Just basic black
If it makes me look fat
I’m taking it back

You won't forsake me

Written to commemorate the 26th Annual “A Night to Honor Israel” by John Hagee Ministries and the Cornerstone Church, San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, October 14, 2007. And especially, to say thank you to Pastor John Hagee and his ministries for their continued support of the Jewish people and the State of Israel. As a middle-age Jewish woman, I’m overwhelmed by this extraordinary congregation and their commitment to helping Israel plus knowing they will never forsake the Jewish people.

Will you defend me
When they abuse
When they scare
When they refuse?

Will you protect me
When I’m in fear
When I’m threatened
When they’re here?

Will you help me
When I’m poor
When I’m tired
When I’m sore?

You won’t forsake me
Because you're brave
Because you care
My life you'll save

Halloween trick or treat

Trick or treat
Money or eat
I’d like to have
Something sweet

Pirate or princess
Goblin or ghost
Wearing a mask
Is what I like most

I'll knock on your door
Then say "trick or treat"
Taking the candy
That soon I will eat

A lot of walking
I’ll have to do
Collecting the candy
Until my curfew

Autumn holidays

Leaves are falling
It's getting cool
Holidays coming
Kids will miss school

On Halloween night
Let's celebrate
We’ll trick or treat
And stay out late

Thanksgiving dinner
A turkey we’ll buy
Cranberries and yams
Plus pumpkin pie

Christmas is coming
It won’t be white
Hang up the lights
It’s sure to be bright

Veterans

You welcomed me back
From World War II
I went overseas
And returned to you

I’m a veteran
For you I served
The women were fired
My job preserved

In every town
Both large and small
There was a parade
To honor us all

I’m a veteran
Of Viet Nam
I went to war
For Uncle Same

A baby killer
Is what you said
Innocent people
I wanted them dead

The war was wrong
Is what you claimed
Thousands of soldiers
Were killed and maimed

Many years later
Wars haven’t ended
Now I'm a hero
Who you once offended

Do dogs get depressed

Do you think your dog’s depressed
That everyday’s the same
That he doesn’t go to work
And he may not like his name

Do you think your dog’s depressed
Cause he eats the same old food
Cause he can’t choose where to go
And goes when you’re in the mood

Do you think your dog’s depressed
When you’re not at home all day
When he has to stay outside
And when no one comes to play

Your dog won’t get depressed
If he gets good food to eat
If he gets a bone to chew
And he gets to taste some meat

Your dog won’t get depressed
If you take him for a walk
If you give him lots of love
And with him you’ll even talk

Your dog won’t get depressed
If his bed is soft and clean
If you take him for a ride
And you’re never, ever, mean

It's turkey time

It’s now that time of year
I have to live in fear

If I don’t get to hide
Inside your car I’ll ride

I’ll be washed and dressed
And ready for your guests

Then carved by someone able
While lying on your table

What’s left of me you’ll save
Till more of me you crave

Thanksgiving holidays
It’s me you like to praise

Cut down in its prime

Jena 6 case, Jena Louisiana; Racial intolerance regarding black high school students sitting under a tree that was monopolized by the white high school students. White students hung three nooses from the tree the day after black students sat beneath it. Six black students retaliated by beating up a white student. The black students were prosecuted and imprisoned but the white students were only suspended for a few days for their actions. A demonstration of 400,000 people came to Jena, Louisiana on Thurs., Sept. 20, 2007 protesting the harsh penalty for the black students versus the white students. There were no arrests or acts of vandalism during this one day protest.

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree (Joyce Kilmer)

The tree was planted long ago
Amidst the hatred it would grow

The whites would sit beneath this tree
No blacks in this fraternity

And it was known throughout the school
The ones who should observe this rule

The tree with branches full and wide
Would soon be lying on its side

The tree that never was aware
Of those who said they wouldn’t share

The tree for all and not for some
In need of shade, they all should come

But now that day will never be
Because they cut that lovely tree

A tree cut down while in its prime
This tree did not commit a crime

The Teflon Man strikes again

O.J. Simpson, former football star, acquitted in 1995 in the criminal trial for murdering his ex-wife Nicole and her companion Ron Goldman. He was was later found guilty in the civil trial. O.J. Simpson was arrested in Las Vegas in Sept. 2007 for attempting to steal his own memorabilia.

O.J. Simpson
You were caught
Collectibles
Are what you sought

Murder charges
Didn’t stick
Another crime
You chose to pick

A foiled attempt
You couldn't reclaim
Souvenirs
Bearing your name

If not acquitted
For this crime
The Teflon Man
Could serve hard time

The Juggler - Romano Frediani NCL Cruise 2007

Up and down
Faster and faster
If one of them drops
It will be a disaster

I aim to please
The crowd is large
While I’m on stage
I’ll be in charge

Audience members
A few to pick
To help me with
My final trick

My juggling act
On the Norwegian Dawn
I hope they’ll remember
Long after they’re gone

By, Randee Saber 9/11/07

Why did you come

Did you come to seek adventure
Did you come to get some rest
Did you come to earn some money
Did you think the food was best

Did you know you’d share a room
Did you know it’s rough at sea
Did you know you’re gone for months
Did you tell your family

Did you bring your fancy jewels
Did you bring some pretty clothes
Did you bring a lot of money
Did you see most of the shows

Do you think the work is hard
Do you think that life’s unfair
Do you think you’ll keep this job
Do you know the guests don’t care

Do you say you’re glad you came
Do you say you need the rest
Do you say you like the spa
On this ship you are a guest

Guilty as Sin

August 2007
Michael Vick, Atlanta Falcons Quarterback
Indicted on Dog Fighting Charges

Michael Vick
Now you’re licked

Guilty as Sin
Trouble you’re in

Dogs need protection
As well as affection

Soon you will learn
Money you’ve earned

Won’t set you free
In prison you’ll be

You were a fool
Who knew it was cruel

Those horrible fights
Dogs have rights

The SPCA
Searches each day

And they will find
Dogs treated unkind

But Michael Vick
Charges will stick

Football is banned
You’re no longer grand

Though you’re well known
You’re not all alone

Others weren’t caught
It’s you who they sought

Because of your name
Because of your fame

Guilty as sin
Bad you have been

Those who've done wrong
In jail they belong

If we could be united

If we could be united
As someone who is one
A lot we would accomplish
So much we could get done

You used to walk for miles
But now you’re in a chair
I used to do a whole lot more
Life has become unfair

Your body may be broken
But your mind is full of spirit
My body seems okay
But my mind is not quite near it

Although it will not happen
We’ll never be just one
We can enjoy our friendship
And accept what we’ve become

By, Randee Saber 5/9/06

A special friendship

I’ve looked at you
For many years
I watched you laugh
And wipe your tears

I watched you grow
I helped you learn
And every day
You would return

You liked to snack
While I was there
I couldn’t eat
You couldn't share

You shopped with me
You learned to cook
You didn't want
To read a book

Suspenseful games
Depressing news
There was a lot
For you to choose

A scary movie
Made you scream
While you napped
I watched you dream

I’ve been your friend
Each night and day
On sleepless nights
By me you’d stay

A bigger screen
You said not yet
Until I break
You will not get

I looked at you
When watching me
I’ve always been
Good company

Hugs and Kisses

You give me hugs and kisses
Whenever I’m with you
You can not be without me
I’m stuck to you like glue

Anytime I'm needed
You know just where I’ll be
There's no place I can hide
You’ll find me easily

You never can refuse me
I put you right at ease
No matter where we are
I always try to please

When I'm between your lips
Your kisses are quite strong
Pressed between your fingers
I can't stay very long

I won't be going home again
You tossed me in the street
As if that wasn’t bad enough
You squished me with your feet

You gave me hugs and kisses
It’s me you did desire
I was having lots of fun
Until I caught on fire

You gave us hugs and kisses
But now you left your wife
You couldn’t kick the habit
That took away your life

KICK THE HABIT
TOSS THE CIGARETTES

I have a Sugar Mama

I have a Sugar Mama
Who makes a lot of money
I hang around the house
Don’t mind if it looks funny

I often sleep till noon
Then work out at the gym
After eating lunch
Her hot tub I'll be in

Before I take a nap
I might go to a bar
Unless I drive around
Showing off my car

No need for me to clean
The maid comes everyday
She washes all my clothes
I'll never have to pay

I’ve nothing much to do
We eat out every night
Because her day is long
We hardly ever fight

I wear expensive clothes
To try and look my best
Don’t want to jeopardize
My comfy little nest

I have a Sugar Mama
The sweetest one I know
When I'm a little older
I know she’ll let me go

By, Randee Saber 8/20/07

I want a Sugar Daddy

I want a Sugar Daddy
I’ll be his loving wife
As long as I am spoiled
We’ll have a perfect life

Because I’m young and pretty
I want to pick and choose
And men who really want me
My needs they won’t refuse

He must have lots of money
A doctor would be great
But if he is a lawyer
I’ll still go on a date

He doesn’t want me working
My Sugar Daddy mate
Instead I’ll start a family
And live on his estate

Some girls are not as fussy
They haven’t time to wait
As years go passing by
It soon will be too late

Perhaps the man they’ll marry
Will one day strike it rich
He’s now a Sugar Daddy
A man I chose to ditch

What goes up may not come down

The price of gas
The food you buy
A brand new car
Have reached the sky

A college degree
The home you desire
Insurance costs
Keep getting higher

An elevator
A bouncing ball
Go up and down
But that's about all

The Queen of Mean

Leona Helmsley, died August 20, 2007
Together with her late husband Harry, they owned many New York hotels and buildings including the Empire State Building. She was called “The Queen of Mean” and was once quoted as saying “Only the little people pay taxes." She served 18 months in prison after her trial in 1989 for tax evasion.

Sugar and spice
And everything nice
Girls have to be
Or they’ll pay the price

“The Queen of Mean”
She was well know
A chain of hotels
She happened to own

When she was charged
With tax evasion
Employees came
For this occasion

Saying Leona
Was ruthless and mean
The rich don’t pay taxes
They quoted the queen

Women in power
Should be aware
They need to be nice
Although it's unfair

Plenty of men
Are ruthless and mean
At their employees
They’ll often scream

Snakes and snails
And puppy dog tails
It’s okay for boys
To be tough as nails

Evil Deeds

July 24, 2007
Murder of Doctor’s Family:
Wife and two daughters in
suburban Connecticut
after a vicious attack and then
setting their house on fire, the
doctor managed to survive.

You’re going to prison
Because you were caught
Killing those people
A Bible you’ve brought

You’re going to prison
For quite a long time
Because you committed
That heinous crime

You’re going to prison
You were on parole
You haven’t reformed
You’re out of control

You’re going to prison
You tortured and raped
Burning their home
While you escaped

You’re going to prison
A place you just left
Not for murder
But petty theft

Back to prison
You’ll now return
Because a life sentence
You chose to earn

Wedding Vows

Are you still with
Your very first wife
Will you be together
For the rest of your life

How is she doing
Did she become lame
Does she have dementia
Or is she insane

You’ve been with her
Through thick and thin
It never mattered
What shape she was in

Are you still with
Your very first man
Who’s been your spouse
Within your life span

How is he doing
Did he become lame
Does he have dementia
Or is he insane

You’ve been with him
Through thick and thin
It never mattered
What shape he was in

In sickness and health
Till death you will part
Your vows were recited
With all of your heart

Cycling when you're bi-polar

I’m cycling up a hill
The ride is such a thrill

As I approach the top
It’s hard for me to stop

I can’t remain there long
It’s where I can go wrong

Then cycle down once more
Just like I've done before

And cycle up again
But never knowing when

What are you complaining about?

You complain when it’s cold
You complain when it’s hot
You also complain
When it rain’s a lot

You complain there’s a drought
You complain there’s no snow
Or not enough wind
For your sailboat to go

You complain about hail
And the dents in your car
Plus the flooded street
Surrounding your car

Complain all you want
If it makes you feel better
But you have no control
Over the weather

By, Randee Saber 8/19/07

When you look at me, what do you see?

Do you look at me with kindness
Do you look at me with shame
Do you look at me with envy
Do you look at me with blame

Do you see that I’m alone
Do you see that I’m depressed
Do you see that I’m afraid
Do you see that I’m oppressed

Do you look at me with wisdom
Do you look at me with fear
Do you look at me with caution
Do you look at me with cheer

Do you see that I’m fatigued
Do you see that I’m confused
Do you see that I’m rejected
Do you see that I’m abused

When I look at you I'm worried
When I look at you I’m sad
What I see is that you're selfish
What I see is that you're bad

Attempted Suicide

On a warm day in September
I thought I had a plan
I bought a lot of pills
And placed them in my hand

In my car, these pills I swallowed
At a park where I had driven
In a spot quite far away
Out of sight, that’s a given

But I started getting scared
That I would die alone
So I started up my car
Thinking I could die at home

But I didn’t die that day
My life, my husband saved
He called the paramedics
Who said I misbehaved

When I think about that day
I remember what was done
That tube put down my throat
Much pain had just begun

My hands were full of needles
They had to use IV’s
To get my body healthy
They took good care of me

The nurses weren’t friendly
They had no sympathy
For someone suicidal
They need more empathy

But I will understand
If suicide you choose
I know just how you feel
Like me, you were confused

Level the playing field

We're off and running
To see the men play
And never the women
No matter what day

The women you see
Are cheering the teams
Out on the field
While everyone screams

It’s really unfair
Aren’t you aware
The playing field
Both sexes should share

But who would attend
An all women’s game
They won’t draw a crowd
It's really a shame

When off-season comes
Women should use
A playing field
That they can choose

It's raining cats and dogs

It’s raining cats and dogs
Has the cat got your tongue
Our kittens are taking a cat nap
Because they’re very young

Pussy willows are in my vase
Over there’s a dogwood tree
On a dog day afternoon
Underneath I’d like to be

It's best to let sleeping dogs lie
They're nothing but copy cats
You’re still the cat’s meow
So let them chase the rats

It’s a dog- eat- dog world
But you can’t be a scardy cat
The world's going to the dogs
Doggone it, that's that

I'm a lucky dog

I'll eat chicken
When its finger lick-in

I'll eat meat
When I’m by your feet

I'll eat scraps
When they fall from laps

And food in a can
Or a frying pan

You’ll just eat a bowl of rice
Because it’s not a real high price

You’ll just eat a boiled potato
Not some lettuce and tomato

You’ll just eat a bowl of hash
Because you have so a little cash

You don’t have enough to eat
Now you can't stand upon your feet

I’m a lucky dog it’s true
But how can a dog feel sorry for you

By, Randee Saber 8/15/07

You're Fired

Here’s your pink slip
We’re letting you go
A robot replaced you
Didn’t you know

Younger people
We’ve chosen to hire
Those who are old
We have to fire

We had to downsize
Your job’s gone away
It’s now overseas
And there to stay

The company’s bankrupt
The boss was a crook
And pension funds
Of course he took

Your job has ended
No need to be said
The towers collapsed
Your colleagues are dead

By, Randee Saber 8/15/07

Do you have a pet

Do you have a dog
Do you have a cat
Or maybe you have
A little white rat

Do you have a rabbit
Do you have a bird
One that recites
Every word

Do you have a hamster
Do you have fish
Swimming around
Swish, swish, swish

Do you have a lizard
Do you have a snake
Not a good pet
Will these two make

The British Invasion

They crossed the ocean
Appeared on TV
The Ed Sullivan Show
Millions would see

A different look
This group had
Longer hair
Parents got mad

Teen-age girls
Loved them the most
To see them perform
Who wouldn't boast

The screaming was loud
Their singing unheard
When playing their songs
You knew every word

As time marched on
A modern look
Those fancy suits
Off they took

Their hair got longer
They sang better songs
Until Yoko Ono
They all got along

A shot in the dark
John Lennon was dead
No Beatles reunion
Tears were shed

The British invasion
The Beatles came
Quite a legend
They became

Cats of many colors

Look at all our faces
Don't we look the same
We’re cats of many colors
And share a common name

Our hair is long or short
We’re black and white and grey
Our food is in a dish
So mice won’t be our prey

We wander through the night
But sleep when it is day
And when we’re little kittens
We really like to play

Some cats are very friendly
But others like to fight
You can hear them fighting
When they’re out at night

Dogs will irritate us
They don’t know what we are
And when they try to chase us
We’ll hide beneath a car

We recognize each other
We know we’re all the same
We’re cats of many colors
Domestic cause we’re tame

No security - no more loyalty

There’s no security
In the workplace anymore
You won’t work there for life
They’ll kick you out the door

The company you’re with
Won’t need you anymore
When work goes overseas
Your job goes to the poor

More profits they will gain
Those foreigners work cheap
They’ll send your work to them
Your job you cannot keep

There’s no more loyalty
In the workplace anymore
Employees want more money
They’ll leave if offered more

But who can really blame them
They have to do what’s best
Earn money when they’re young
Be better than the rest

To climb the corporate ladder
They won’t stay in one place
They’ll keep on changing jobs
As if they’re in a race

No farewell parting gifts
Employees didn’t stay
Some left for better jobs
Some jobs just went away

Swimming in the ocean

To swim in the ocean
I really did like
I used to live close
I'd ride my bike

The water’s refreshing
The waves are rough
I’d rest on the sand
When I had enough

Gathering seashells
Large and small
I'd bring them home
And paint them all

Back to the ocean
I had to go in
For one final swim
Soon school would begin

White Supremist

Shame on you
For taking up space
You’re not fit to live
With the human race

Spending your time
Making a list
Of those you hate
And shouldn’t exist

A white supremist
Is what you proclaim
Shaving your head
And seeking fame

Who influenced you
To act this way
Hating those you dislike
Who work everyday

You may be white
But you’re not supreme
You’re just a looser
Who’s very mean

You scratch my back, I won't scratch yours

You scratch my back
I won’t scratch yours
Because I’m a dog
I walk on all fours

I love to be petted
I’ll lie on my back
So you’ll rub my tummy
Your love I don’t lack

It calms you, it sooths you
When you’re petting me
Your blood pressure drops
Its good therapy

I can’t scratch your back
I can lick your face
And I'll follow you
All over the place

Save the best for last

I used to save
The best for last
When I was young
And in the past

I’d eat a cupcake
Upside down
Then eat the icing
When turned around

Whenever I ate
A piece of cake
The icing would be
The last bite I’d take

Sometimes the best
Is not always last
When I eat pizza
The crust I'll pass

Dreams

It's time for me to go to bed
I’ll get eight hours sleep
Because I have too many thoughts
Into my mind they creep

I'm certain there's a reason
Why thoughts get in my head
I often have so many dreams
That sleeping I will dread

I’ll go to different places
Places that are new
And I'll get to stay there
Until the dream is through

When I have a nightmare
I’ll say it’s just a dream
Even if it’s frightening
I’ve never had to scream

Waking up is difficult
Because I’m very tired
I kept so busy in my sleep
That more sleep is desired

It will become my bedtime
I’ll go to sleep tonight
I’m sure I’ll have another dream
A good dream or a fright

Money, I hope it lasts

It’s time to spend my money
Today I just got paid
I need to do some shopping
With the funds I made

Paychecks never last
I have my rent to pay
Plus payments on a car
For me to use each day

Bills are overwhelming
No end to what I need
Especially with children
I’ve many mouths to feed

The prices keep on rising
And rising to the top
Gas is so expensive
When will it ever stop

But I think I’m lucky
I don’t live on the street
I eat three meals a day
With nice shoes on my feet

Bill Gates donates to charity
There’s billions he can spend
If he'd like to give me some
I'll be his new best friend

The younger generation
It seems will live in debt
Paying off their college loans
I hope they’re not upset

The older generation
Must make their money last
If they're in a nursing home
Their money runs out fast

As long as I'm alive
My money will be spent
But with the cost of living
I haven't saved a cent

By, Randee Saber 7/1/06

When it comes to money

When it comes to money, no one’s your friend
They’re jealous of you
And what you can spend

When it comes to money, no one’s your friend
If they ask for money
Don't give them or lend

When it comes to money, no one’s your friend
How you spend your money
May often offend

When it comes to money, no one’s your friend
Donations they'll seek
Telling you where to send

When it comes to money, no one’s your friend
They may seem to like you
It might be pretend

When it comes to money, no one’s your friend
But if they have money
The friendship will blend

Me, Myself and I

Me, myself and I
We wave and say hi
We try hard not to cry

We always share our food
We're never mean or rude
We've never had a feud

We travel everywhere
We sit in the same chair
We've seen each other bare

Me, myself and I
We'll never say goodbye
Together we will die

By, Randee Saber 6/7/07

Forgot what I was going to say

I had a thought
I had something to say
It no longer mattered
The thought went away

I was distracted
And lost this thought
I tried to remember
So hard I fought

Was it important
And did it matter
I can’t believe
My thought would scatter

Soon I’ll remember
What I had to say
As you leave the room
And you walk away

By, Randee Saber 6/30/06

Time heals all wounds

Time heals all wounds
I think it’s untrue
And shouldn’t refer
To me and you

Wounds leave scars
On your body and mind
It’s hard to forget
When someone’s unkind

The loss of a leg
An arm or an eye
Can never be healed
It’s obvious why

All wounds won’t heal
With the passage of time
Like torturing those
Who committed no crime

By, Randee Saber 8/6/07

You do have compassion

Don’t be too nice
Don’t be too fair
What you have earned
You don’t have to share

Think of the rich
Get rid of the poor
Tear down their homes
That’s progress, for sure

You need to exploit
Those who are weak
Who lack the power
And can not speak

You must be ruthless
Because you are greedy
Show no concern
For those who are needy

You do have compassion
I must confess
At a charity ball
In your $1,000 dress

Sunday is Church Day

Sunday is the day
When people often pray
At a church nearby
Because they’re off that day

Even when they’re tired
They force themselves to go
It’s a Sunday habit
The only one they know

Alone or with their family
They’ll listen to the preacher
Who speaks of loving-kindness
And is their Sunday teacher

When people are in need
The church will open doors
Reaching out to others
Putting cots on floors

Churches feed the hungry
They also clothe the poor
They maintain a food bank
A free convenience store

The singles go to dances
At church they’d rather meet
Instead of taking chances
With someone on the street

In need of food or prayers
You're welcome at my church
Our doors are always open
No need for you to search

By, Randee Saber 6/30/06

Actions speak louder than words

You say that I’m your friend
But won’t return my call
A kind of friend like you
I do not need at all

You say that I’m your friend
But think you have to know
The money that I have
So I say you must go

You say that I’m your friend
But when I was depressed
You avoided me
To help me, you’d protest

You say that I’m your friend
But you’ve excluded me
To be with other people
That's where you choose to be

A friend returns a call
And takes you to the mall

Doesn’t care about your money
Stays with you when days aren't sunny

It must be give and take
Or the friendship’s just a fake

Pretty in pink

Pretty in pink
On ladies it's fine
But on a man
It's not a crime

Dressed in pink
Not baby blue
When your baby girl
Comes home with you

Choose a pink shirt
Instead of plain white
Wear something new
Men have the right

Real men eat quiche
Real men will cry
And a pink shirt
Real men can buy

Pretty in pink
What do you think
Suppose he’s handsome
And gives you a wink

Calendar Girl

I’m a calendar girl
But I’m not on your wall
There’s so much to do
And keep track of it all

I must write it down
I can’t miss a date
To be somewhere
And not run late

My schedule fills up
The calendar quick
To schedule an outing
I’ll know when to pick

If not written down
It will skip my mind
Then it’s too late
That day’s now behind

I’m a calendar girl
Who forgets to look
What’s written down
In my calendar book

Living off my folks

I’m bored and broke
And I’m living off my folks

I can’t get a job
But I’m not really looking
When I want supper
I’ll say "what's cooking"

When I need money
I’ll ask for a loan
My folks give in
But they gripe and moan

I’ll watch TV
In the middle of the day
My dirty clothes
On the floor they'll stay

I’ll sleep till noon
Then stay out all night
Staggering home
In the broad daylight

One day I’ll stand
On my own two feet
If a rich young lady
I happen to meet

I’m now approaching
My middle age years
And not leaving home
My folks do fear

I should be ashamed
But really I’m not
Cause lots of money
My folks have got

I’m bored and broke
And they moved before I woke

American Idols

The smell of cologne
The roar of the crowd
The show is funny
The laughter is loud

The final curtain
The actors appear
Standing ovations
Along with cheers

On the red carpet
They’ll stand and pose
We’re able to see
The gowns they chose

They’ll get rewarded
For what they have done
Golden trophies
The stars have won

Into the woods
His ball hardly goes
Because he’s a tiger
He plays with the pros

Slam dunk the ball
Pitch to home plate
Kick the ball far
While spectators wait

The smell of the beer
The roar of the crowd
The home team won
The fans are proud

American idols
They act and they sing
Including the athletes
Much pleasure they bring

Now I lay me down to sleep

July 24, 2007 Connecticut family, mother and two teen-age daughters brutally attacked and killed in their home. Father, a prominent physician, specializing in Diabetes survives after being beaten and thrown into the basement.

Now I lay me
Down to sleep
I pray the lord
My safety keep

I’ll lock the doors
And windows too
No way a robber
Could get through

My home alarm
I’ll surely set
A great big dog
I’ll also get

Never warned
About the night
When terror caused
Their helpless plight

Safe and sound
Upon their beds
Pillows tucked
Beneath their heads

Amongst the screams
They laugh and talk
Inside their rooms
Both men will walk

Throughout the night
In fear and abused
They wouldn't see
Tomorrow's news

The scum of the earth
Who wouldn't reform
Because of this crime
They chose to perform

If I should die
Before I wake
Those who’ve killed
Their lives please take

Great Dane

A horse is a horse
So big and strong
But look at your dog
There's something wrong

You say it's a dog
But how can that be
Because it's so big
It baffles me

A dog that big
Can't sit on your lap
But stays by your side
While you take a nap

A dog that size
How much will it eat
And how does it fit
In a car's back seat

A dog that big
People will fear
Except when you say
It's okay to come near

A dog's that gentle
And looks so regal
Unlike a dachshund
Or a beagle

Some like them big
Some like them small
But we need to provide
A home for them all

But you mind

You don’t mind when it is raining
You don’t think the weather's cold
You don’t care if someone's snoring
You don’t know you're getting old

You don’t care about tomorrow
You don’t think about the past
You don’t mind where you are living
You don’t know the years go fast

You don’t think you need to bathe
You don’t care to be with friends
You don’t mind the car is old
You don’t know to make amends

You don’t think that life's unfair
You don’t care to watch the news
You don’t know that we're at war
You don’t mind the food I choose

You don’t think about your problems
You don’t care about nice clothes
You don’t know to hold a grudge
You don’t mind you step on toes

You don’t care how people look
You don’t think about your day
You don’t know how much I love you
But you mind when I'm away

I hate fashion shows and showers

I hate fashion shows
How immature
Grown up ladies
Wearing haute couture

They’re modeling clothes
Do I really care
What’s in style
And I need to wear

Changing their outfits
While we wait
To see the clothes
That are up-to-date

I hate bridal showers
Another long wait
While the bride opens gifts
For her and her mate

Surrounded by gifts
Will she like mine
I see it’s still standing
Waiting in line

Pots and pans
We all take a look
China and crystal
Will this bride cook

It takes a few hours
A bridal shower
At least we had
Good food to devour

I hate baby showers
There’s no mystery
A boy or a girl
That’s history

Those silly games
They make you play
For entertainment
Or so they say

So many gifts
To open and see
No need to go
On a shopping spree

Adorable outfits
Babies are chic
Dressed in clothes
From a baby boutique

What the heck
I guess they’re okay
What else would I do
To kill a day

By, Randee Saber 9/30/06

Appendages and then some

Your left hand doesn’t know
What the right hand is doing
Is it something important
That’s worth pursuing

I’d give my right arm
To go on a cruise
Where I can relax
And take a snooze

Although you don’t have
A leg to stand on
You may be wrong
But your leg is not gone

That outfit you’re wearing
Cost an arm and a leg
Please buy one for me
And don’t make me beg

You’re all thumbs
Just open the box
It’s something you needed
A few pairs of sox

An eye for an eye
That’s rather extreme
You’re seeking revenge
And being real mean

Stop running your mouth
You have a sharp tongue
These very nice folks
You are among

Heads up, look out
Watch where you’re going
There’s a big rock
Right where you’re mowing

No new religious heroes

They say that most religions
Began in ancient times
And those who did not follow
They said committed crimes

And thousands of years later
Religions that we choose
Nothing new has happened
So now I am confused

And why has nothing happened
In our modern world today
No new religious heroes
To whom we all can pray

Moses was a hero
He parted the Red Sea
Brought us the Commandments
Yes, quite a man was he

Jesus’ mother Mary
In a manger she gave birth
Saying he’s the son of God
Whose life will have much worth

And without a doubt
To Jesus they will pray
This old religious hero
Exists in modern day

The Jews continue waiting
For when he will appear
They'll wait for their Messiah
If it takes 1,000 years

Let's write another Bible
That talks about the present
The new religious heroes
And who they represent

I don't think I'm alone
That I am not unique
To question our religions
Some answers I still seek

Mind your manners

Mind your manners
Surely you've heard
Parents would say
And meant every word

Good manners you have
When opening doors
For those in your car
And entering stores

Please and thank you
Means you’re polite
Well mannered people
Will not pick a fight

When introduced
Say, “how do you do”
Before you leave
Say, “nice meeting you”

It's Sir or Ma’am
As a sign of respect
For those with manners
This is correct

Thank you notes
Should quickly be sent
Telling the person
How much their gift meant

Mind your manners
But be sincere
Don’t talk about people
Because they're not near

Eating or Non-eating Section

When we’re at the movies
People like to eat
They’ll make a lot of noise
Eating popcorn in their seat

The movie’s not that long
How hungry can they be
They’ll bring in so much food
To eat in front of me

The smell of all their food
Always makes me sick
If they continue eating
Another seat I’ll pick

To cut down on the noise
Their cell phone shouldn’t ring
And if they have a baby
Be sure and not to bring

The section that I'll choose
Is where no one can eat
And if they want to talk
They need to change their seat

Don't be afraid

The big bad wolf
Doesn't live near
But in the woods
It hunts for deer

A grizzly bear
Enjoys eating fish
Especially salmon
That's its wish

Crocodiles
Will try to eat you
If they're in the water
Don't swim or canoe

Lions and tigers
Don't be afraid
Into your life
They won't invade

Some dogs bite
But most are nice
Be kind to dogs
Take my advice

You musn't trust
A total stranger
Because your life
Could be in danger

World War One
World War Two
The Viet Nam War
We're still not through

The terrorists
No end to our fighting
Mass destruction
To them is exciting

Our greatest fear
I'll have to say
Is all mankind
On each other we prey

Why can't we be friends

I’d like to be your friend
I see you everyday
But when you look at me
You always run away

Why do you bother me
I’m sure it’s plain to see
When you start chasing me
I'll quickly climb a tree

I’d like to be your friend
But when you say meow
I do not understand you
I only say bow wow

Why do you bother me
I’ll make a hissing sound
And also arch my back
I don’t want you around

I’d like to be your friend
I know that I'd have fun
Lying next to you
Soaking up the sun

Why do you bother me
Did I not let you know
I will not be your friend
You have to let it go

I’d like to be your friend
I think you should agree
That we could get along
You live next door to me

Why do you bother me
Go play with your own kind
So I'll no longer worry
I’ll have some peace of mind

Scarlett Saber

Her name is quite misleading
It's sure to fool you too
Cause Scarlett’s not a lady
She’s a doggie this is true

As soon as Scarlett meets you
She’ll be your new best friend
And snuggle up beside you
Over and over again

But if you are another dog
You might not be so lucky
Scarlett can be mean to you
Except if you’re a puppy

And Scarlett likes to eat a lot
Every meal plus snacks
So any crumb that’s on the floor
Won’t hit the garbage sack

When the weather gets too hot
She’ll jump into a pool
Because her coat is black
This helps to keep her cool

I love to visit Scarlett
And hope she visits me
She’s a loveable Pit-bull
And happy as can be

I love the smell

I love the smell
Of good perfume
What a nice fragrance
It adds to a room

I love the smell
Of anything baking
Cookies, cakes
Whatever you’re making

I love the smell
Of clothes on the line
And newborn babies
With powder are fine

I love the smell
Of a brand new car
And the pungent smell
Of a big cigar

A street just paved
The smell of hot tar
Appeals to me
I know it's bizarre

The smell of popcorn
Who can resist
I'll buy a big bag
No need to insist

That crisp clean air
I love at dawn
And the smell of grass
On a newly cut lawn

But the ocean breeze
I smelled no more
When I moved away
From the Jersey Shore

Kitchen Witch

I'll lick the serving spoon
When you're not in the room

If food drops on the floor
I'll eat it that's for sure

I won't wash the tomatoes
Or lettuce and potatoes

I guess because I'm lazy
Or maybe I'm just crazy

What I do when I'm cooking
I'll make sure no one's looking

So when you come to eat
Relax while in your seat

Forget about last night

You must remember
What happened last night
Between the sheets
In a room without light

You must remember
But won’t convey
The pleasure you had
At the end of your day

You must remember
But no one will guess
What you did last night
You won’t confess

You’ll talk about sports
And your favorite teams
But not about nights
With passionate screams

It's hard to forget
What happened last night
On the following day
In the broad daylight

I hate the sound of

I hate the sound of my alarm
waking me from slumber

I hate the buzzer sounding
when my clothes are dried

I hate the sound of sirens
forcing me to clear a path

I hate construction sounds
while I’m resting outdoors

I hate the sound of people
talking on cell phones

I hate the sound of dogs
barking non-stop

I hate the sound of laughter
when it isn’t funny

I hate the sound of music
from the car beside me

I hate the sound of snoring
while I’m trying to sleep

I hate the sounds of thunder
chewing, shouting and crying

But most of all
I really hate
that buzzing sound of a bee
as it surrounds me

I'm still here

I’m still here
I’m still living
He died and left me
I must be forgiving

He was the man
I was the wife
Everyone thought
We had a good life

We had our problems
More than a few
We were discreet
So nobody knew

We had two children
Both moved away
Unwilling to move
We chose to stay

On him I depended
To take care of me
He went and died
As if he did flee

I’m now in a home
Sharing a room
With nothing to do
Just meals to consume

No one will talk
They sit and stare
They don’t have stories
They’d like to share

Here in this home
I’m waiting to die
He had to go first
I sit here and cry

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Don't share your food

Don’t share your food
With a big raccoon
When he's hungry
He'll return soon

Don’t share your food
With a bunny rabbit
Because eating your food
Will become a new habit

Don’t feed the squirrels
They'll gather nuts
Your kind of food
Might hurt their guts

Don’t feed the deer
When it comes near
If it likes your food
It will reappear

Don’t share your food
With wild prey
They’re sure to return
Day after day

Preserve the forest
Don't ruin their home
If not, when they’re hungry
In your yard, they’ll roam

I liked you better when you were fat

I liked you better
When you were fat
Needing two chairs
Wherever you sat

I'm heavyset
I could shed pounds
But dieting
So bad it sounds

To be with you
Made me feel good
Especially when
Beside me you stood

You shed those pounds
Now you're slim
A healthy diet
A daily swim

A whole new look
With brand new clothes
To lose that weight
Is what you chose

When you were fat
I thought I looked thin
It's obvious now
What shape I'm in

Our favorite pictures

Another newborn baby
A picture you'll show me
It’s really hard to tell
Is it a her or maybe a he

The baby is so pretty
Of course I'll always say
I’ll try to sound sincere
When this I do convey

Look at all those pictures
You’ve shown me everyone
You’re grandkids are real cute
But now I’ve got to run

You’ve taken a vacation
And now you have returned
Come look at all your pictures
This honor I have earned

What lovely wedding pictures
They're always fun to see
Bridesmaids next to ushers
With the bride and groom to be

Here's what Rusty looks like
Her pictures are with me
I love my little doggie
She keeps me company

We're sitting ducks

Virginia Tech Massacre
April 16, 2007
32 people killed

Aim for the ducks
You're at the arcade
Pick up your gun
You’ve already paid

They’re easy to shoot
The ducks won’t run
They need to be killed
With your shotgun

You’ve shot so many
You can’t be beat
Thirty-two killed
Will be hard to defeat

But what about ducks
The gunman will chase
On their own campus
Danger they face

Those ducks at school
Unknown they're prey
Soon to be shot
On a warm sunny day

They’ll never be safe
They need to beware
When danger lurks
They can't prepare

We’re sitting ducks
All in a row
Shot by someone
We'll never know

Do you like your name

You’re stuck with your name
And it’s stuck on you
It you don’t like your name
Then what will you do

What is your name
Do you share it with many
Is it unique
Or ordinary

You may even share
A name with your dad
They call you junior
Now that's not bad

The third or the fourth
A boy can claim
Numbers to follow
His last name

They may be confused
About your name
A boy or a girl
Your name is the same

A common name
Your name will be found
On souvenirs
Just look around

When ladies get married
Their last name may change
It may sound better
It may sound strange

Naming yourself
Would be the best
A name you will like
More than the rest

Ladies please

Duke University
Lacrosse players
falsely accused of
raping a stripper
during a house party
March 2006; they were
acquitted in 2007

Ladies please
Don’t falsely accuse
Just so you get
Your name in the news

You led him on
It used to be said
You chose to stay
You could have fled

A college jock
A basketball star
Their reputation
You'll surely mar

The pendulum swung
They’re sympathetic
But look at you
You’re so pathetic

Millions were spent
On legal fees
You wanted that money
For shopping sprees

A shroud of suspicion
There’ll always be doubt
Were they acquitted
Because they had clout

Men I must warn you
Or you'll be screwed
Some of these ladies
Are really quite shrewd

Email etiquette

I get a lot of emails
Don’t send me anymore
I haven't time to read them
I mostly just ignore

Although you hardly know me
I'm on your email list
Bombarding me with emails
You feel you must persist

You forward all these emails
Assuming its okay
You won't ask how I'm feeling
When sending them each day

Some emails have instructions
To send to those I know
And if I don't cooperate
My luck will surely go

I now delete these email
No difference does it make
To follow their instructions
Because they are a fake

I welcome all the emails
From friends and family
But if I hardly know you
Then stop annoying me

Dog hair no big deal

Don’t let dog hair

Get you upset

It just indicates

That you have a pet

A family member

So try not to care

When those who visit

Are covered in hair

Guests will sit down

On the dog’s favorite chair

Now the dog’s on the floor

Thinking this is unfair

When the guest stands

They soon will see

The hair from your dog

Annoyed they will be

All covered with hair

And stuck to their clothes

Some hair will brush off

But most still shows

The dog’s on the chair

That both of you share

You’re covered with hair

But you don’t care

The hair that you wear

You’ll say no big deal

This dog that sheds

Is simply ideal

Rock and buy baby

You’ll give up your baby
We’ll get her for free
Except of course
That minor fee

You’ll give up your baby
Immediately
She’ll go and live
With a good family

You’ll give up your baby
Because you’re unwed
You’re still so young
With a future ahead

You’ll give up your baby
You caused them shame
She’ll soon be adopted
You won’t know her name

You’ll give up your baby
Her daddy won’t care
Because this burden
He won’t even share

You’ll give up your baby
They call you a tramp
The innocent daddy's
At Boy Scout camp

You’ll give up your baby
That’s how it was done
The price you paid
For moments of fun

You’ll give up your baby
She’ll go far away
Perhaps you’ll be lucky
To find her one day

You’ll keep your baby
Times have changed
It no longer matters
If vows are exchanged

You’ll keep your baby
It’s not a disgrace
You won’t stay inside
And hide your face

You’ll keep your baby
And won't let her go
Because her real mother
She'll always know

Everyone should write a poem

One day I wrote a poem
I had something to say
Then before I knew it
Ideas just came my way

I never felt important
People looked away
But now that I am writing
I’m happier each day

They say that I have talent
But I don't think it's true
I just enoy my poems
And sharing them with you

I now have my own website
So you can pick and choose
To read a funny poem
About what’s in the news

If everyone wrote poems
If they could find the time
We’d all be busy writing
Perhaps we’d have less crime

The world would be a better place
A poem takes some thought
There’s less time for being mean
When rhyming words are sought

Sit down and write a poem
Ideas aren't hard to find
And look for words that rhyme
It will improve your mind

Going to the movies

We go to the movies
It’s our escape
To watch a man
Wearing a cape

We’ll get to travel
And not leave our seat
To London or Paris
It’s quite a treat

We’ll get to visit
Exotic places
Fantasy lands
And see odd faces

These places we visit
Are quite exciting
A castle, a palace
Yet people are fighting

Comedies, thrillers
Or mysteries
Quite a selection
For you to see

Racing and chasing
Special effects
Sure let’s face it
You've got to have sex

Animation
Has been around
Long before
Movies had sound

Don't forget music
For scenes with suspense
It makes you scared
And also tense

How will it end
Happy or sad
You may like the movie
Or think it was bad

I built it for you

I built your big home
More space than you need
I have a small home
With children to feed

I won’t own a home
As big as yours
With balconies
And tile floors

Only two people
Will reside here
Your home on the lake
Guests soon will appear

My home is run down
In need of repairs
While I build mansions
With winding stairs

I work in construction
And hammer the nails
Adhering to all
Your minor details

You’ll live in this home
It’s your decision
And I build homes
With great precision

It seems unfair
You get to reside
In a beautiful home
I built with pride

Look the other way

Pretend I'm not here
Just look away
But you see me
On this corner each day

You think I’m lazy
I should get a job
In these dirty old clothes
I look like a slob

No one will hire
A bum off the street
I haven’t bathed
I’ve been out in the heat

The dollar you have
I really do need
Not only for me
But for others I’ll feed

Nice clothes you wear
Expensive shoes
Please spare some change
I won’t buy booze

I’m sure you’re in doubt
You think I pretend
That dollar I ask for
On drugs I’ll spend

I sleep in the park
No roof overhead
Or room in a shelter
Where I’d have a bed

You’ll see me here
On the corner each day
Begging for money
While you look away

By, Randee Saber 12/24/06

Not doing the work for you

I planned to take a trip
I made a reservation
I did it all on-line
I had no hesitation

I needed no one's help
I did it with much ease
I didn’t call the airline
I thought it was a breeze

I have a boarding pass
I looked for it on-line
I know what row I'm in
I know what seat is mine

I will not fly the plane
I can get my own drink
I might give out the food
I can do that, I think

I know I'm being silly
When all I planned to do
Was take a little trip
And not do the work for you

The best things in life are not free

The best things in life
Are no longer free
My favorite beach
Now charges me

And who drinks water
From the tap
We pay for a bottle
Who wants that crap

If you’d rather be hot
Or prefer to be cold
Then you’ll pay for air
That’s how it’s sold

A road with no tolls
Appears to be free
Your taxes will pay
That’s how it will be

You’re free to love
Your decision to make
A costly divorce
If you make a mistake

I'll wear your hair

You’re wearing the hair
Someone wanted to share

You’re not missing hair
Your head isn’t bare

You’re really too busy
To comb hair that’s frizzy

You’ll try a new style
To wear for a while

Perhaps they won’t guess
Unless you confess

The hair that you wear
You’ll put on a chair

And when it gets hot
It itches a lot

Or if the wind blows
Away the hair goes

But if you get sick
And lose your hair quick

The wig that you wear
Shows there's hope with prayer

Similarities and differences

Birds of a feather
Together they go
Bye Bye Birdie
A famous show

Monkey see
Monkey do
Monkey in the middle
He’s on my back too

A penny for your thoughts
A penny for luck
Pennies from heaven
A hundred makes a buck

The Big Apple
An apple a day
But not in a pie
Keeps the doctor away

Get off my back
I’ll get back to you
I’ll be right back
When I am through

Mind your own business
Are you out of your mind
Mind your manners
And always be kind

I’ll kill for you
You’re dressed to kill
We’ll kill some time
While waiting for Bill

Her fairy Godmother
Cinderella’s friend
The tooth fairy
Gives us money to spend

Don’t talk to strangers
They may be bad
Don’t be a stranger
Or I will be sad

By, Randee Saber 7/30/06

Same city, different country

Paris, Texas
Paris, France
One city is hot
One’s for romance

Rome, New York
Rome, Italy
A gondola ride
A show to see

St. Petersburg, Florida
A place to retire
St. Petersburg, Russia
Statues admired

Bethlehem, Israel
Bethlehem, PA
The Holy Land
We'll visit one day

By, Randee Saber 7/30/06

Let sleeping dogs lie

Let sleeping dogs lie
Just let it go
You’re angry now
Don’t let it show

Pretend it’s alright
You don’t even care
What that person did
You know wasn’t fair

Let sleeping dogs lie
Don’t cause them to stir
Someone was rude
That will occur

Pretend it’s alright
It’s out of your mind
A much better friend
You’ll certainly find

Annie and me

It's now just Annie and me
And so we must adjust
Ralph’s no longer here
And life goes on, it must

It's hardly been a year
Since Ralph has gone away
To a better place I hope
To a place he’ll always stay

Those many years we shared
Of happiness and fun
That time went by too quickly
It seems like it did run

And Annie doesn’t understand
Why Ralph’s no longer here
A little dog that he bought me
To make my life more dear

So maybe Annie’s lucky
She cannot understand
Why people die and go away
Perhaps to another land

Although we can not see him
Good memories we've had
Whenever we do think of him
We're happy and not sad

By, Randee Saber 4/23/06

The only dog around

I’m walking on all fours
They’re walking on two feet
I see a lot of people
On this busy street

There’s a fire hydrant
You'll let me lift my leg
Waiting patiently
I never have to beg

I don’t see any dogs
It’s quite a mystery
That none are on this street
No other dog than me

I have a lot of fur
And now I’m getting hot
I hope I find a puddle
I’d run through it a lot

I'm the only dog
But I don’t even care
I only want to be with you
This pleasant day we’ll share

By, Randee Saber 7/3/06

Don't take your dog for granted

Don’t take your dog for granted
He will not live that long
When you go for a walk
Please take your dog along

He really wants to be with you
Because you’re his best friend
So don’t take him for granted
Much time with him do spend

You need to have your own friends
But don’t get too upset
If they don’t want to be with you
At least you have your pet

He might wait by the window
Then greet you at the door
But when he gets much older
He won’t greet you anymore

Don’t take your dog for granted
One day he won’t be there
And then you’ll be real sorry
More time you could have shared

By, Randee Saber 3/4/07

Stop chasing me

I’m being chased
I’ll win the race
They can't catch me
At their slow pace

I’ll climb a tree
Because I’m quick
They won’t catch me
Their butt I’ll kick

Just leave me alone
I’m gathering nuts
And go chase a cat
I hate your guts

I’m a squirrel
Haven’t you guessed
And one thing’s for sure
Your dog’s a pest

By, Randee Saber 3/9/07

My watchdog

You’re my watch dog
The great protector
Always with me
And not a defector

A big strong dog
Of a mixed breed
When we’re walking
You take the lead

A stranger calling
Ringing the bell
Once they see you
They’ll say farewell

You’ve been with me
For many years
Protecting my home
Without any fears

I’m safe and secure
When you are near
And lucky that
You're living here

By, Randee Saber 7/11/06

Come and visit little pigeon

Little pigeon
Living in the city
Come to the suburbs
Where it’s pretty

You’d rather walk
You hardly fly
You’re overweight
Perhaps that’s why

You’re in the park
And on the street
Walking around
On little feet

You'll find some food
Where people go
You'll walk so much
You’re pigeon toed

On the boardwalk
You used to walk
Planter's Peanuts
You used to stalk

Come to the suburbs
And visit me
When you get tired
You can sleep in my tree

By, Randee Saber 3/7/07

I'm one of a kind

I'm a pretty dog
That's one of a kind
Although I'm a mutt
My owners don't mind

My mom was a lab
My dad was mixed
And I was born
Before she got fixed

A poodle, a shepherd
They’re pedigrees
But one thing’s for sure
We all mark the trees

Those of one breed
All look the same
To tell them apart
Call out their name

We’re never invited
To any dog show
Or asked to be fostered
Where pedigrees go

Mongrels are smart
It's often been said
Forget the Dalmatian
Choose us instead

By, Randee Saber 3/7/07

The modern dog

We brush our teeth
And go to school
Even though
We pant and drool

At the dog park
Is where we play
And doggie day care
When they go away

We eat Science diet
And milk bone treats
Chew rawhide bones
And never eat sweets

We go to a groomer
We have to get bathed
And if our hair’s long
We'll get it shaved

We star in movies
Perform in shows
We even wear
Our own line of clothes

We like to travel
They take us along
In hotel rooms
We now belong

Health insurance
We easily get
It comes in handy
When paying the Vet

When we're tired
They'll hear us snore
In our own little bed
On their bedroom floor

We get cremated
After we die
An urn with our ashes
They'll probably buy

Dog Park

The Huntwick Subdivision Dog Park
Opened the Summer of 2007

No sliding boards
At this new park
No swings to push
Just dogs that bark

They run around
They like to play
With any dog
That comes their way

Most dogs are nice
And they won’t fight
They’re only playing
When they bite

All different breeds
Though most are mixed
And hopefully
They’ve all been fixed

Don’t watch your step
The park is clean
And where dogs run
The grass stays green

A park for dogs
Where they can play
And on a leash
They needn’t stay

By, Randee Saber 3/4/07

Puppy school

No barking allowed
In puppy school
Sit and stay
That’s the rule

No sniffing a place
That’s not on the face
Or getting loose
And playing chase

No potty breaks
During this hour
But you’ll be rewarded
With treats to devour

No homework to do
You’ll just have fun
Learning to listen
Your training’s begun

By, Randee Saber 3/7/07

All dogs go to heaven

All dogs go to heaven
I’m sure that must be true
So you must forgive them
For anything they chew

Dogs are always playful
And yes they love to eat
So when they do a trick
Make sure they get a treat

Dogs are real forgiving
They’re loyal and sincere
Plus they will protect you
Because they show no fear

Dogs will never gossip
But jealous they may get
If another dog or cat
Will be your other pet

Dogs may hide your slippers
Because they like to play
And chased around the house
Will always make their day

Dogs like what you’re eating
They’ll want to eat it too
So while you’re at the table
Your food they will pursue

You won’t be bored or lonely
Just take them for a walk
And yes they like to listen
Although they cannot talk

All dogs go to heaven
I’m sure it must be true
A best friend they will always be
They’ll do the most for you

By, Randee Saber 12/24/06

A night on the town

Eye shadow, lipstick
And rouge for the cheeks
Apply the face powder
So none of it streaks

A pretty blonde wig
Made from real hair
Now you’re in search
Of something to wear

Padding is added
Enhancing your chest
Placed in the bra
You now have breasts

Nice long nails
Polished bright red
Your new mini skirt
Is draped on the bed

Shave your legs
Then put on hose
A low cut blouse
Is what you chose

Be sure to add bling
Apply good perfume
Make your bed
Tidy your room

Dressed like a woman
No one would guess
Unless of course
You decide to undress

By, Randee Saber 3/7/07

Toss the hat

No combing over
Toss the toupee
Shave it all off
No hair will stay

A head that’s bald
Smooth and shiny
It looks just like
A baby’s hiney

But no protection
From the sun’s rays
Or any warmth
On winter days

Completely bald
Yet they don’t mind
Unlike a woman
A wig she’ll find

To keep it shaved
Preventing stubble
It has to be
A lot of trouble

They’ve tossed their hats
Into the ring
Completely bald
Is now their thing

We love our cars

We love our cars
We’ll rest our feet
We’d rather sit
In our car seat

Drive through banks
Use the machine
Get your money
The bills are clean

The pharmacy
It's no big chore
Your pills are in
Their outside drawer

A burger and fries
Including a shake
Drive right up
Step on the brake

Your car is dirty
It's easy to clean
Drive right through
A car wash machine

A wedding chapel
Drive through quick
Be sure you love
The one you pick

Drive in movies
A thing of the past
Using Netflix
Will get them fast

We'll stay in our cars
No walking required
We won't get wet
Or get perspired

It was only make pretend

He really seemed to like me
He had a lot of charm
He liked to be flirtatious
He thought there’d be no harm

He reveled in his power
He knew I had to work
He took advantage of me
He was driving me berserk

He wanted me to be with him
He mentioned it a lot
He thought of just himself
He put me on the spot

He thought I was sincere
He hoped I was his friend
He made me play a game
He said my job would end

He wanted to control me
He knew I couldn’t complain
He knew he was the boss
He was driving me insane

I had to keep this job
I had to keep the pay
I didn’t know what to do
I hoped he’d stay away

I now feel like a coward
I didn’t want romance
I should have told on him
I lost my only chance

I had to move away
I knew it all would end
I thought he really liked me
I know it was make pretend

Why did you get a Chihuahua

Why did you get a Chihuahua
There are dogs of many breeds
This dog can not protect you
How does it fill your needs

How far can this dog walk
I’m sure it does get tired
Refusing to continue
So carrying is required

And do you feel secure
When strangers come to call
They'll see this little dog
Who scares no one at all

Does it play fetch the ball
And does it know some tricks
I’m sure like other dogs
It's private parts it licks

This teeny, tiny dog
Be careful not to squash
And when collecting laundry
Be careful not to wash

It doesn’t eat too much
Less dog food you will buy
When sitting near the table
Your food you can't deny

And just like other dogs
It messes on the grass
But it will go unnoticed
Whenever people pass

These dog are very brave
When big dogs do come near
They will not run away
Because they have no fear

Those who like Chihuahuas
I needn't wonder why
But any pet you get
Adopt before you buy
