Look the other way

Pretend I'm not here
Just look away
But you see me
On this corner each day

You think I’m lazy
I should get a job
In these dirty old clothes
I look like a slob

No one will hire
A bum off the street
I haven’t bathed
I’ve been out in the heat

The dollar you have
I really do need
Not only for me
But for others I’ll feed

Nice clothes you wear
Expensive shoes
Please spare some change
I won’t buy booze

I’m sure you’re in doubt
You think I pretend
That dollar I ask for
On drugs I’ll spend

I sleep in the park
No roof overhead
Or room in a shelter
Where I’d have a bed

You’ll see me here
On the corner each day
Begging for money
While you look away
