Working from home

Stay at home orders

Thank heavens for Zoom

The meetings you have

You can do in any room

Nice clothes aren’t needed

No new friends to make

When working from home

No car will you take

No office romances

No baby showers

And you won’t see

Who’s getting flowers

No one supervising

You’re on your own

Spending more time

On your cell phone

No sexual harassment

There’s no one around

When working at home

It’s like a ghost town

Some people enjoy

This solitude

And not dealing with

Co-workers who are rude

Good Riddance 2020

When the clock struck midnight

Who would ever have thought

In the year 2020

We’d have been so distraught

A virus from China

So rapidly came

The Corona Virus

Was its new name

Thousands were dying

The elderly for sure

It can kill anyone

The rich and the poor

Throughout the world

The infection spread quick

Something had to be done

So more wouldn’t get sick

Cruise ships were stranded

For weeks out at sea

A trip planned for fun

Became a misery

Towards the middle of March

Our country shut down

Because this virus

Was in every hometown

Grocery stores were open

Toilet paper disappeared

Plus, cleaning supplies

On the shelves were cleared

No weddings or graduations

Or shows to see

With crowds of people

We could not be

Masks were required

To cover our face

And plexiglass barriers

Were all over the place

Socially distance

Became a new phrase

Staying 6 feet apart

Became a new phase

 Jobs were furloughed

Businesses would close

To order on-line

Most people now chose

Liquor stores were open

No haircuts could we get

How bad our hair looked

Just drink to forget

Parents helped children

To learn, using Zoom

While teachers taught

In a virtual classroom

Working from home

Only if you are able

Those front-line workers

True heroes are their label

No visitors allowed

Those patients died alone

Some said their goodbyes

On the telephone

A shortage of ventilators

Many more they would need

Auto manufacturers

Produced with great speed

Long lines to get tested

Long lines to get food

No gathering with friends

You are not being rude

More people getting better

And some very quick

Even President Trump

This virus he would lick

A gradual reopening

A vaccine coming soon

We’ll conquer this virus

We’ve put men on the moon

No more water fountains

No drinking from a fountain

They've all been shut down

Might as well remove them

There's so many around

No meetings in person

Thank heavens for Zoom

And exercises classes

I do in my sunroom

Zoom ID numbers

And passcodes too

Something new

I learned how to do

No Mah Jongg games

In person to play

The Real Mah Jongg app

Is here to stay

No grandchildren visit

In their home or mine

Haven’t held the baby

And that’s not fine

So far I've been lucky

And haven't been sick

But will I be the one

The virus will pick

Everything’s virtual

From lectures to shows

Until Covid 19

Officially goes

An unexpected car trip

Departed Friday Sept. 18, 2020/ returned Friday Sept. 25, 2020

An unexpected car trip

With a lady who transports pets

A three thousand-mile round trip

And I never had any regrets

From Houston to upstate New York

Tiffany drove all the way

Bringing her dog Chappie along

With the transport dog it would play

That barbecue in Memphis

We stopped for local cuisine

Their sauce was very tasty

And the beef was thin and lean

It then became a vacation

With sightseeing on our return

Visiting the Ark Encounter

So much we got to learn

God told Noah to build the Ark

He needed to flood the earth

The people had become too evil

It was time for a new re-birth

And then it was off to Hot Springs

The Arlington we stayed at was old

Perhaps it might have been haunted

Although we had not been told

Some shopping and a Duck Tour

We did earlier in the day

And the thermal pools we swam in

Were a perfect place to stay

An unexpected car trip

A decision not hard to make

And many other car trips

With Tiffany I hope to take

I met Tiffany Cady, who transports pets for a living, on the Next-door app the end of August 2020

when she was looking for a Mah Jongg player. Although we hardly knew each other, before taking

this trip on September 18, 2020, we got along splendidly for the entire week.

MASK-UP

I admired her mask

Though it’s not Halloween

When now going shopping

That’s how we are seen

Due to a pandemic

Masks are required

Though who would think

They would be admired

All different fabrics

Including sports teams

Disposable masks

Are always clean

Don’t spread your germs

Keep wearing a mask

A slight inconvenience

But not a hard task

If I was a nurse

In appreciation of all the nurses who've treated me when I've been hospitalized.

If I was a nurse
Treating those who are ill
I’d ease their pain
And give more than a pill

If I was a nurse
I'd be very proud
To care for the sick
That’s what I vowed

If I was a nurse
I wouldn't be bored
Too many patients
Who can't be ignored

If I was a nurse
I'd be very gentle
Having compassion
And not be judgmental

If I was a nurse
I wouldn't mind
When patients got well
And left me behind

Seat belts save lives and mask up

Buckle up for safety

My generation heard

And honestly

I believed every word

Those opposing seat belts

Many would say

Too uncomfortable

Risking lives everyday

Seat belts with a harness

To keep you in place

So, into the windshield

Does not go your face

Installed in cars

Those airbags came

Keeping you safer

That was their aim

And child safety seats

A wonderful invention

To keep them safe

Should be no question

Due to Covid -19

We should all wear a mask

But some will get irate

Complying with this task

A mask restricts breathing

In a restaurant or a store

Yet, if it's not worn

You can't go there anymore

Ladies, don’t make a fuss

On the news you’ll be seen

Calling you a ‘Karen”

A lady who is mean

I love reality TV

Certain shows
I love on TV
To live their lives
Vicariously

A spousal visa
For just 90 days
They need to marry
Or have to part ways

From other countries
For a better life
In the USA
A husband or wife

On the Internet
It’s how they met
A green card
They hope to get

Six hundred pounds
And maybe more
Almost too big
To fit through a door

So much food
You see them eat
It’s hard for them
To stand on their feet

A surgeon in Houston
Can operate
But first they need
To lose some weight

A high protein diet
No carbs or a sweet
That 50-pound loss
Will be hard to meet

Quintuplets, Sextuplets
As cute as can be
Another show
I’ll watch on TV

Brothers and sisters
Demanding attention
Exhausted parents
Need I mention

Cribs and diapers
Formula and clothes
All these babies
Is not what they chose

Fertility drugs
A decision to take
Too many babies
They would make

The bachelor
And the bachelorette
Some pick the right one
But most they regret

Lots of kissing
On these shows
A fantasy suite
Where anything goes

Thanks for sharing
Your life with me
Do you make lots of money
On reality TV

Empty nesters & retirees

My neighborhood is pretty
The streets are clean
With beautiful flowers
And grass that's green

Throughout the day
It's usually quiet
People will walk
But no one will riot

You always feel safe
Police are here
Take a walk at night
Nothing to fear

Except for the dog park
No people to meet
To stand and talk with
On any street

I'll stay in my yard
And swim in my pool
On very hot days
I'll always be cool

With endless days
The same routine
My morning coffee
Without caffeine

For empty nesters
And retirees
We live alone
Among the trees

How to meet your mate

A high school sweetheart
Or on a blind date
Those were two ways
You found your mate

A college major
For some pre-wed
After college
To a wedding it led

The Dating Game
Once a popular show
Ask a few questions
On a date they would go

Then more shows
Came onto the scene
Those bachelor shows
With some who are mean

We hope they are able
To find true love
Among many people
They will dispose of

With Internet sites
You can meet your mate
Some will not live
In your home state

Months even years
An online romance
To a foreign place
They will take a chance

A ninety-day visa
For them to decide
If they want this person
For a groom or a bride

Beware of the catfish
With many out there
Professing their love
While money they snare

Fly me to the moon

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
A song that was written
Before cell phones and smart cars

They went to the moon
To see what was there
Though dangerous
They didn't care

From coast to coast
It has all been explored
Canyons and waterfalls
You’ll never get bored

Going to places
On roads unpaved
To see something new
People have craved

When there was nothing
More to be seen
They flew to the moon
In a rocket machine

But there are places
That I still need to see
So, flying to the moon
Is not for me

The stakes have never been higher for Elon Musk's SpaceX. This will mark the first time in history that a commercial aerospace company has carried humans into Earth's orbit. NASA and space fans have waited nearly a decade for this milestone.
The United States hasn't launched its own astronauts into space since the Space Shuttle program ended in 2011. Since then, NASA's astronauts have had to travel to Russia and train on the country's Soyuz spacecraft. Those seats have cost NASA as much as $86 million each.
But the space agency chose not to create its own replacement for the Shuttle. Instead, it asked the private sector to develop a spacecraft capable of safely ferrying astronauts to and from the International Space Station — a controversial decision considering that NASA had never before outsourced the development of a human-rated spacecraft. The thinking was that commercial companies could drive down costs and spur innovation, and NASA would have more time and resources to focus on exploring deeper into the solar system.
In 2014, NASA awarded two contracts: $4.2 billion for Boeing to build its Starliner vehicle, and $2.6 billion to SpaceX, which planned to create a crew worthy version of the Dragon spacecraft that was already flying cargo to and from the International Space Station. NASA had already put money toward SpaceX's development of the Dragon spacecraft used for transporting cargo. The space agency has said Boeing received more money because it was designing the Starliner from scratch.
Boeing recently suffered a significant setback when a Starliner capsule malfunctioned during a key uncrewed test flight. But if SpaceX can carry out this mission, it'll be a major win for NASA, which has been pushing for more commercial partnerships.
Not to mention, NASA won't have to ask Russia for rides anymore.

Technology 2020

No more do I need
For a clock to see
I just ask Alexa
The time she gives me

Asking her questions
And music to play
She turns on my lights
Tells the weather all day

My TV remote
Can answer commands
Turning the channels
With endless demands

Tell it what program
You wish to see
It goes to that channel
Immediately

My Apple watch
I can hardly believe
The calls and texts
Wearing it I receive

Amazing what
This watch can do
In addition to telling
The time for you

I’ll ask navigation
When inside my car
To give me directions
Both near and far

No more getting lost
Instructions are great
Leading me to the door
No need to be late

And last but not least
My iPhone is best
Always with me
But not on my chest

Though texting is now
What most people do
I miss conversations
I once had with you

The Corona Virus (Covid 19)- 2020 Pandemic

A strong economy
Until this crisis came
COVID-19
Now nothing’s the same

Beginning in China
Then spreading world-wide
And in our country
Too many have died

So we were told
To shelter in place
For several weeks
Don’t show your face

A rush to the stores
During this quarantine
The shelves are bare
Sanitizer's aren't seen

Schools are closed
Children are bored
Toilet paper
People will horde

Our country's shut down
No one's traveling
High unemployment
Much suffering

Social isolation
Is now the new norm
No shaking hands
We all must conform

I did what was expected

I went along with everything

I did what was expected

Though when I am alone

I feel I’ve been rejected

I wasn’t smart enough

At Penn State to succeed

Just wanted to have fun

A flunk out guaranteed

I married very young

Was very immature

Gave birth to 2 grown sons

With me they now ignore

Suffering from depression

A battle hard to fight

Had suicide attempts

But then I chose to write

I loved it in the past

When ideas often came

Published in a newsletter

I had a bit of fame

In psychiatric hospitals

I’ve been to in years past

It causes me embarrassment

It’s nothing to broadcast

               My husband’s very helpful

               He loves me very much

                 I couldn’t live without him

               Although we never touch

Despite my major surgeries

I’ve tried to stay in shape

           But fear about the future

There is no great escape
