Cut down in its prime

Jena 6 case, Jena Louisiana; Racial intolerance regarding black high school students sitting under a tree that was monopolized by the white high school students. White students hung three nooses from the tree the day after black students sat beneath it. Six black students retaliated by beating up a white student. The black students were prosecuted and imprisoned but the white students were only suspended for a few days for their actions. A demonstration of 400,000 people came to Jena, Louisiana on Thurs., Sept. 20, 2007 protesting the harsh penalty for the black students versus the white students. There were no arrests or acts of vandalism during this one day protest.

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree (Joyce Kilmer)

The tree was planted long ago
Amidst the hatred it would grow

The whites would sit beneath this tree
No blacks in this fraternity

And it was known throughout the school
The ones who should observe this rule

The tree with branches full and wide
Would soon be lying on its side

The tree that never was aware
Of those who said they wouldn’t share

The tree for all and not for some
In need of shade, they all should come

But now that day will never be
Because they cut that lovely tree

A tree cut down while in its prime
This tree did not commit a crime

O.J. Simpson
You were caught
Collectibles
Are what you sought

Murder charges
Didn’t stick
Another crime
You chose to pick

A foiled attempt
You couldn't reclaim
Souvenirs
Bearing your name

If not acquitted
For this crime
The Teflon Man
Could serve hard time

The Juggler - Romano Frediani NCL Cruise 2007

Up and down
Faster and faster
If one of them drops
It will be a disaster

I aim to please
The crowd is large
While I’m on stage
I’ll be in charge

Audience members
A few to pick
To help me with
My final trick

My juggling act
On the Norwegian Dawn
I hope they’ll remember
Long after they’re gone

Why did you come

Did you come to seek adventure
Did you come to get some rest
Did you come to earn some money
Did you think the food was best

Did you know you’d share a room
Did you know it’s rough at sea
Did you know you’re gone for months
Did you tell your family

Did you bring your fancy jewels
Did you bring some pretty clothes
Did you bring a lot of money
Did you see most of the shows

Do you think the work is hard
Do you think that life’s unfair
Do you think you’ll keep this job
Do you know the guests don’t care

Do you say you’re glad you came
Do you say you need the rest
Do you say you like the spa
On this ship you are a guest
