Moving van

Today I saw a moving van
Driving down the road
And wondered where it’s going
Carrying a heavy load

A family that was moving
To another place
A brand-new adjustment
A challenge to face

New friends and new school
New places to see
Will it be far away
Or near family

Will they live where it’s hot
Or where it gets cold
And will they stay there
Until they are old

The van only goes
A few miles away
In the same neighborhood
This family will stay

I was inspired to write this poem
because the house on the corner
of my cul-de-sac was sold twice
within the last few years and each
owner moved to different homes
in my neighborhood.
