Different shapes for different states

The shape of a state
A small or large size
Who was in charge
How was this devised

Long and narrow
And some that are square
Plus one that’s so small
It doesn’t seem fair

The Lone Star state
Takes up much space
It can take a whole day
Driving out of that place

States with panhandles
I can think of two
A neighboring state
They did squeeze through

On our license plates
Different slogans appear
Like the Lone Star State
On the front and the rear

The Great Debate

The Great Debate

The great debate
Watch it and see
The promises made
To you and to me

Questions are asked
A full array
But who’s in the lead
Can vary each day

Lengthy answers
While running this race
The 6th of November
The voters they’ll face

Enough is enough

Enough is enough

 When people get killed
In  war zone space
There are also those shot
At an innocent place

They went to a movie
And were anxious to see
A midnight showing
Stated on the marquee

A night out with friends
With laughter and fun
Some paid with their lives
When the end wasn’t done

Enough is enough
This shooting must stop
At restaurants and schools
And stores where we shop

On July 20, 2012, a mass shooting occurred at a Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight screening of the film The Dark Knight Rises. A gunman, dressed in tactical clothing, set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms, killing 12 people and injuring 58 others, the highest number of casualties in an American mass shooting. The sole suspect is James Eagan Holmes, who was arrested outside the cinema minutes later.

The Wrecker's Ball

The wrecker's ball
Dynamite
The building's gone
No more in sight

Fond memories
Of that grand hotel
It wasn't updated
The rooms didn't sell

A new hoteel
That has two towers
A large casino
And rooms large showers

A tear down home
Because it's too small
They'll build a big home
That's three stories tall

The family moved out
Because they retired
A much larger home
New owners desired

What's coming now
The land was sold
It once was a farm
So I've been told

In with the new
Out with the old
They'll do what they want
Once the property's sold

Anton - the dining room manager

Anton, Dining Room Assistant Manager

Holland American (Eurodam) Cruise July 2012

Surrounded by thousands
Co-workers and guests
The job you’re assigned
You don’t get much rest

These may not be
The best years of your life
Away from your children
Away from your wife

I’m so glad I met you
You brightened each day
But the cruise has ended
And I cannot stay

Piano Lady

Piano Lady – Diane Fast
Holland American (Eurodam) Cruise July, 2012

You’ve met a lot of passengers
From your piano seat
While we were on our cruise
Each evening we would meet

You sang and played the night away
And never took a break
A repertoire of songs you know
Requests the guests would make

Thanks for entertaining me
You sing and play so well
I really liked your lounge act best
When you sang that song by Adele

I'm a baseball player

I’m a baseball player – Roger Clemens
(formerly played for the Houston Astros)

I’m a baseball player
And I didn’t cheat
I never took steroids
Though I’m hard to beat

After two lengthy trials
The jury has said
That I wasn’t guilty
That’s how I had pled

They said I bulked up
While playing my sport
But not from steroids
My lawyer said in court

After two separate trials
Much money was spent
For my attorney
And the government

Performance enhancing
Some athletes may use
But why this crusade
Did our Congress choose

William Roger Clemens (born August 4, 1962), nicknamed "The Rocket", is an American former Major League Baseball starting pitcher who played 23 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for four teams, including the Houston Astros. Clemens was one of the most dominant pitchers in major league history, tallying 354 wins, a 3.12 earned run average (ERA), and 4,672 strikeouts, the third-most all time. An 11-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, he won seven Cy Young Awards during his career, the most of any pitcher in MLB history. Clemens was known for his fierce competitive nature and for his hard-throwing pitching style that he used to intimidate batters.
Clemens was found not guilty on June 18, 2012 for the charges of suspicion of lying to Congress on August 19, 2010 when he testified that he never took performance enhancing durgs.
