Cancer

Invading our bodies
And we’re unaware
This silent killer
Does not even care

Why does this happen
Especially to the young
Invading our blood
Our breasts or lungs

With newer drugs
Many now will survive
But then there are those
Who soon won’t be alive

Howdy Doodle

Do you doodle at work
When the meeting is boring
To keep you awake
So you won’t start snoring

Do you doodle while waiting
For your dinner to appear
On a table with white paper
While drinking your beer

When I have the urge to doodle
Flowers will be drawn
They do look more like weeds
Growing on my lawn

My doodles aren’t good
An artist I am not
Doodles help me to relax
They’re not meant to be bought

So if you’re placed on hold
On anything you choose
Just doodle what you want
It will keep you amused

Randee with 2 e's

My given name is Randee
It's Randee with 2 e's
Not I, or Y, or just one E
This name does not suit me

Randee's not a nickname
Most people often ask
I cannot change my name
It would be a tedious task

My parents weren't thinking
This name is for a boy
In England it means horny
Feeling Randy, oh what joy

My name that has 2 e's
Not I, or Y, or just one E
It's the feminine spelling
A name that was given to me

All Sexed Up

Sexting is now
A new obsession
And those who partake
Will make this confession

Junior high students
Think it’s cool
To sex their friends
While sitting in school

Using a smart phone
Lewd pics they’ll share
With a secret code
Will anyone care

And let’s not forget
Former Congressman Weiner
With his obsession
Oh, what a schemer

He risked his career
And that of his wife
Sharing his body
Was his Internet life

Playboy Magazine
And so many others
Adored by many
Husbands, and brothers

No longer will they
Sneak a peek in a store
With Internet porn
They can see much more

If there's a Mah Jongg Game in Heaven

If there’s a Mah Jongg game in heaven
I know that you’ll be there
Making lots of friends
Stories you can share

If there’s a Mah Jongg game in heaven
I know that you’ll have fun
Playing all the time
No housework to be done

If there’s a Mah Jongg game in heaven
Are you smiling down upon me
Remembering all the years we played
Though together we can no longer be

In memory of my beloved friend and neighbor
Barbara Jungman (Feb. 1951 - Oct. 2013)
who I knew for 25 years and
with whom I played Mah Jongg with every
Friday night for over 20 years.

Miss America came back

Hello pretty ladies
You were gone for a while
We missed your pretty faces
Your poise and your smile

You were taken to Las Vegas
That place just wasn’t right
But then you did return
Much to our delight

You belong in Atlantic City
Where it all began
As a swim suit competition
The local people ran

Back to Atlantic City
The parade will be at night
And every one of these ladies
Will be a beautiful sight

Miss America 2014: Pageant waves to Atlantic City once again

They arrived like an assembly of goddesses in the late-afternoon sun, light glistening off their 53 identical silver crowns. Positioned against a backdrop of Roman columns in the outdoor amphitheater of Atlantic City's Kennedy Plaza, beauties from around the country — the contestants in the 2014 Miss America pageant — gathered on the city's boardwalk for the first time in nine years.

The last Miss America to have her dream come true in Atlantic City was crowned in September 2004. The next year, the pageant left "America's Favorite Playground" for Las Vegas. This month, Miss America is back and both Atlantic City and New Jersey are rolling out the red carpet.

High School Reunions - Atlantic City High School, class of 1971

I may not desire
To live in the past
But high school for some
Was really a blast

High School sweethearts
The prom King and Queen
The class President
Who was squeaky clean

Sorority girls
How mean they could be
If you got to know them
You would agree

First in our class
Or a football star
The lucky ones
Had their own car

The popular kids
Hung out all the time
This social ladder
Was hard to climb

Both riot and snow days
We got off from school
Police in our building
Prevented a dual

A college degree
Was ours to pursue
Going into the service
Was an option  too

How many students
Would move far away
And how many beach bums
Would never stray

Those high school years
Have long gone away
But high school reunions
Will be here to stay

Comment:  My high school days were during Martin Luther King's assassination. These were very turbulent times and there was rioting in our school. The racial divide in Atlantic City High School was quite apparent and as such, there was a lot of tension.  Most of the white students came from middle class families that lived downbeach in Ventnor and Margate. We never had black students in my elementary or Junior High school. Though I was initially afraid of this integration, the majority of whites and blacks did not mingle. Also, there was quite a change from a strict dress code during our first couple of years to wearing jeans our senior year. I met my husband, ACHS class of '65 just six months after I graduated from ACHS in 1971 and we've been married 40 years.
