One if by land, two if by sea

Ancient sailors
You really admire
To sail the ocean
Was your desire

Two on-board
Husband and wife
A journey unknown
Risking your life

You must have sailed
On very rough seas
But got to enjoy
A tropical breeze

On Ellis Island
Your boat would land
Where immigrants
Use to stand

Another journey
On land not sea
Route 66
Is where you’ll be

Your motor home
Is very small
In order to stand
You can’t be tall

Many adventures
In future years
You both retired
From good careers

Written on my first cross-country trip in our travel trailer
where I met this older couple at an RV park who actually
sailed across the ocean in a small sail boat from Scotland to
the U.S. and were about to begin driving along Route 66.
