I once was invited
To a new member tea
In a really nice home
That did impress me
I thought the home
Had an elegant touch
And quite expensive
Who knows how much
The guests looked nice
Their hair was styled
They seemed to like me
And always smiled
Many were widowed
Yet I was amazed
Though friendly and cheerful
While I looked half crazed
They no longer work
Yet say they are busy
Running around
Until they are dizzy
There’s not much to do
But play many games
Bridge, canasta
And some other names
Perhaps these ladies
Have chosen to act
Are they really not happy
As a matter of fact
If you happen to go
To a new member tea
You don't have to be
As observant as me
