I never left New Jersey
Until the day I flew
All the way to Vietnam
A place I never knew
Rice fields were abundant
They often posed a threat
Viet Cong would hide there
This war I didn’t get
The Viet Cong would infiltrate
The South is where they’d go
We had to shoot at everyone
Cause how were we to know
The drugs were very plentiful
They helped you to forget
We couldn’t face another day
Without the high we’d get
I did one tour in Vietnam
For me that was enough
Because of all the friends I lost
I was no longer tough
I'll never go away again
New Jersey's where I'll stay
I suffer from traumatic stress
And get disabled pay
